George completed his undergraduate degree at York University, where he earned an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Law & Society. He then attended Osgoode Hall Law School, in Toronto, graduating with his Bachelor of Laws degree in May 2001. George was called to the Bar of Ontario in October of 2002.
Since his call to the Bar of Ontario George’s legal practice has exclusively focused on insurance defence litigation. George handles both “tort” and first party claims and also has extensive experience in loss transfer and priority disputes between insurers. Of note, George appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada on April 17, 2015 for a priority dispute matter.
George worked for one of Toronto’s leading insurance defence firms from October of 2002 until January 2, 2015. George is a founding partner of Kanellakos Ballard LLP.
George is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada. He is also currently a member of the Canadian Defence Lawyers, Advocates Society, Dispute Resolution Counsel Forum and Hellenic Canadian Lawyers Association.
George’s personal interests include hockey, football and basketball. He is a die-hard fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the New England Patriots. George also enjoys traveling, good food, reading and spending time with his niece and nephew.

Derek grew up in the Northwestern Ontario town of Fort Frances. He completed his undergraduate degree at Lakehead University. He graduated from law school at the University of Manitoba in 2002 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2003.
Since his call to the bar, Derek has practiced in many areas of insurance litigation including personal injury, medical malpractice, product liability, disability insurance and class action disputes.
In his twelve years of practice as a lawyer in Ontario, Derek has represented clients at all levels of Courts and Tribunals including the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Divisional Court, the Superior Court of Justice and the Financial Services Commission of Ontario.
Derek is a founding partner of Kanellakos Ballard LLP.
Outside of work Derek spends time with his wife and daughter and enjoys golf, curling and baseball.
